White One style "Tulipan". |
Description: A fitted, shapely and long bodice that flares from the hips. True mermaid styles are fitted throughout then flare from the legs at around the knees; modified mermaid styles are fitted throughout then flare from about the hips to a gentle and more subtle, less bulky A-line shape.
With this particular style it is crucial that the bodice, bust, waist, hips and sometimes rear be as fitted as a bathing suit and custom alterations are a MUST.
Alfred Angelo style 2187 |
Style and Body Types: Is a modern classic with the best of both worlds. Is less severe and more subtly sexy than a mermaid while being more body conscious and shapely than ball gowns or A-lines.
Like the A-line, this A-line mermaid can be almost universally flattering. Any medium to robust proportioned bride can find a flattering and beautiful specimen to wear fit for your formality, always taking care to alter to your personal measurements. The only ones who must avoid this style are linear body types, since this style of gown thrives on, and is partially held up by, some amount of curves.
Vera Wang 2011 runway |
Structure: It bears repeating: alterations are a must! If you cannnot afford alterations, find a more forgiving silhouette like the A-line.
A corset will almost always be integrated into this style of gown.
An extra petticoat in this silhouette is unnecessary since the gown will have it's own built in crinoline structure.
A bustle for the train is a given.
