I'm not much for keeping up with celebrity happenings and whatnot but the Cannes Film Festival has been going on (or is still going on or was going on but is now over) and I figured I'd capture my favorite looks before they escaped me.
First up is Aishwarya Rai in an amazing textured one shouldered peplum gown. It is my opinion that curvy women can't pull off peplums but Aishwarya proves me wrong. Is it just me or does she totally rock it?
Clemence Posey in a high-low hem gown has a cute look for bridesmaids. Although she could look a bit more polished, I really like the playfulness.
And like I always say, with this hemline make sure you pick cute and colorful shoes!
Another high-low hem look was sported by Julia Saner. Her look is more dramatic and "can-can girl" and perhaps for a wedding might be a bit too frivolous for bridesmaids, especially with that longer, ruffled train so I think this is best for a fun bride.
Courtney Love looks surprisingly put together! I really love her fresh and polished bohemian look for bridesmaids. I feel like she did the formal and polished look her way. Flat gladiator sandals can be too casual but silvery shiny version like hers are the ticket to wearing them with an evening gown.
Diane Kruger can wear a bias gown like no one else. This is a great and carefree look for a bride with lots of confidence to spare!
Eve Hewson's dress I can best describe as something you either love or hate. Despite it's unusual, maybe confusing cut, I love it. But that's maybe because I'm partial to illusion necklines. I see this look as being more polished goth, not one many bridesmaids could pull off.
Fan Bing Bing wears a delightfully playful textured and ombre gown. I love that the ombre instead of looking "dip dyed" from the bottom hem up, is gradated from the bodice down. I would love to see a bridal gown with color on the bodice that gradually fades to a lighter shade like this one.
Robert DeNiro's wife Grace Hightower sports a modest look any mother would be comfortable wearing. The pattern is a nice change and the flower pin is adds interest.
While I am not a fan of Gwen Stefani's look, I think a bold bride can gain inspiration from it, whether from the bow on the bodice or contrasting stripe.
Jodie Foster looks ah-mazing, even though I like her look for a more modern and minimalist bridesmaid look. (P.S. Doesn't Mel Gibson look like he's laughing nervously, trying to hide behind her?)
Karolina Kurkova also rocks a pleasing bridesmaid number. Although traditional, almost no one has long sleeveless evening gowns nowadays which make this look fresh and the cascading sparkles give it a twist.
Kirsten Dunst sports a love-it-or-hate-it dress which I happen to think looks interesting. I think this would look great on a funky bride who wants a twist on traditional white, but perhaps with a more A-line shaped skirt and with a cleaned up floor length hem.
Kiki strikes again in another love-it-or-hate-it number. I think she looks great but for a wedding it would look best with less pattern and in better colors. I love that this is not a run-of-the-mill strapless dress but rather the criss crossed halter is more substantial and supportive, something most maids would feel comfortable yet stylish in.
Laetitia Casta has a classic look that is part grecian goddess and part fairy princess. It works, it's completely wearable for a bride and best of all, you will forever look classic and still stylish in your pictures, not dated and trendy.
Lea Seydoux rocks a similarly timeless and classic pink look. I think the entirety of how she looks is perfect for how every bridesmaid should aspire to look: sweet, refined and elegant.
Paz Vega sports a dove gray bedazzled and funky (in my opinion) pantsuit look. I can see a very fashion forward mother-of-the-bride daring to wear this.
Another pantsuit look was worn my Rachel McAddams, but I can actually see this as more of a guest of the wedding look than any bridesmaid or mother look. Perhaps it's the corset? The linen-look high waisted pants? In any case, it's perfect and very fashion forward for a brunch reception.
Uma Thurman sported two great bridal looks, the first of which is this bias cap sleeved number. The long hanging ribbon at the back is bridal standard and she looks so statuesque in a bias cut.
This is probably my favorite bridal look in this series. An easy, classic cut dress with a funky feathered skirt, a smooth and clean sweetheart neckline, easy done-yet-tousled hair, and a pop of color with turquoise statement earrings. Turquoise and white always look modern and clean, but it's the feather skirt that brings it home.
Zoe SaldaƱa bring us home with a candy striped number. I think this is a unique and unexpected way to add your color scheme to your gown. It's probably a bit bold for some but I can see it being done in a more subtle way also.
