I recently ran across this slide show of Dakota Fanning's greatest fashion hits and I thought it would make for an interesting retrospective on bridal/maids style.
Of course at 16/17 Dakota is far too young to be a bride but one can garner inspiration from her fashion moments nonetheless.
Also in my personal opinion 16/17 might also be too young for thigh high strapless mini-dresses, which I also find too revealing for weddings, but that is more because my personal tastes run towards the modest! :)
First up is an ivory strapless drop waisted gown with a gathered mermaid skirt and full train. This "gown" look is very much a departure from her more playful choices.
A neutral colored floral applique Valentino gown. This is my personal favorite because it is both age appropriate, playful, yet sophisticated. This gown would make a great whimsical wedding gown for a faerie queen!
A nude colored one shouldered embellished mini. This color comes dangerously close to almost washing out her pale complexion if it weren't for that glowing 16 year-old rosy cheeked face!
A slightly more toned nude with an above-knee hem line, sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves. While this look is fairly sweet, it seems a bit too low cut to be innocent!
Here is Dakota all grown up in a more form-fitting drop waisted mini with slight sweetheart neckline.
I also really love this gunmetal dress. I love the embellished illusion neckline and I think the darker metallic actually suits her Nordic complexion better than pale colors.
Here she is in a fun black lace mini with nude lining and asymmetric neckline. I also really enjoy this one.
A cute corseted coral ("honeysuckle") mini with fun origami bubble hem. Though I wonder what is up with the shades?
Another mini, this time with origami bust and skirt details. This and the one above are great examples of house slightly darker neutrals and pink colors flatter her complexion.
A great royal blue, slightly longer mini with unique asymmetric origami details.
A cute ruffled baby blue mini. I like how the ruffle at the sweetheart bust adds shape.
An interesting black mini with bubble hem and dimensional pin-wheel details. This is a silhouette that perhaps only Dakota with her youth and winsome figure can probably pull off!
I also really like this red bubble hem dress with one shoulder rosettes. This is a girl doing a more modest mini, which for a junior bridesmaid would be more appropriate.
Another one of my favorites is this simple yet stunning LBD. The empire waist and A-line shape are flattering and fun enough for a teen, even in somber black, yet also classic and timeless.
This one is just for fun, a metallic tunic with skinny pants. I think this is a fun look for a young girl and perhaps a more modest way to still wear those insane minis and not be too bare.
Lastly, a fun blue floral dress with a cinched waist and gathered bust and ruffle detail. I love how those details give her slim silhouette some modest shape.
