Continuing with my Golden Globes recap... Julie Bowen in her pale Reem Acra gown is another washed out example of someone who totally bombed the nude trend. While the gown itself is romantic, whimsical and gorgeous, the lack of color on her as a whole just made her look so bland that you can't even appreciate the fine details of the gown, like the artful rouching on the bodice or the delicate cap sleeves which I recently featured. Her hair, her skin and the dress all look the same color and the barely there makeup just blends her features into her face.
This whole styling manages to make her look both too matronly and old beyond her years and also too juvenile and youthful for her age, even if the gown is gorgeous.
A few years ago all the stars were into tanning and the red carpet looked almost orange with so many overly tanned bodies. Now its like someone decided nude and pale were the new "in" thing and everyone joined in too but to rock a nude color dress you need a flattering contrast between the nude color of the gown, the color of your skin and your hair color. Olivia Wilde wore this identical look but managed to pull it off because of that contrast.
Kate Beckinsale in her structured mermaid Roberto Cavalli fared much better. Her dark hair, eye make up are a nice counter point and her slightly tanned skin looks shimmery and fresh and doesn't blend in with the color of her gown. She is great inspiration for a bridal look!
