Dropped waists are very interesting to me because they can be both formal and traditional while at the same time being sleek and sexy, depending on the silhouette. Its a fairly classic and traditional gown element that is capable of conveying both romanticism and modernity.
I have as examples two similar gowns.
This first gown by Allure is very traditional and you could say it is Neo-Renaissance in style. Its a relatively clean and minimal gown with a straight, strapless neckline and unembellished bodice and skirt. The only embellishment is the dropped waist which is ever so slightly dipped down. While it is without a doubt a very classic yet simple look, this style highlights and carves out a very feminine waist. Very romantic and sleek!
Here is a shapelier example from Jenny Lee. This one is a very body skimming mermaid version, with a strapless sweetheart neckline. The crumb-catcher style almost resembles a corset peeking out of the draped bodice. Again this gown is clean and unembellished save for the waist detail.
If the above gown is Neo-Renaissance, this one is surely more Bohemian and in this picture I almost see a hippie chick in a sexy pair of hip-hugging bellbottoms with a wide belt.
Feminine and romantic, yet a bit more body conscious than the above example.
