I still very much love the idea of separates.  It used to be sort of dated but when done right it can be thoroughly modern and fun, even "couture".

I found this picture of Sarah Jessica Parker in a Versace gown in a preview of the series "100 Unforgettable Dresses" and even though it is technically a gown, the sheer shimmery smoky tulle top paired with a contrasting french blue ruffly rosette ball skirt is really stunning and even whimsical.

I love that all these dresses have a truly vintage feel.  Not only are they all soft and flowy but they are all cut in retro silhouettes with an abundance of details.  This "neo-vintage" is my favorite since items like this are made of new fabrics in the old silhouettes but are new so you don't have to worry about being super careful with handling and wearing the dresses.

The Cotton Bride is true to its name in that it uses natural fibers like cotton and linen.  While the results could be heavy the look is actually airy, light and comfortable.  I also like to think that natural fibers lend unique and unexpected textures so you get a gown that is classic while being unique with the added bonus of being heirloom quality.

Hannah, a sweetheart neckline gown with a line sweep train skirt and rouched dropped bodice with button front detail and embellished natural waist.  The pleated and button detail almost reminds me of a tuxedo shirt and I think that's such a sweet and unique detail.
