I hate to be a cliche blogger that loves/is inspired by Anthropologie, but I really do love'em and I can't help that I am!
Case in point: these sheer sweater + slip dress combos. I have always been a fan of individual rather than cookie cutter bridesmaid looks and call me crazy but I am really digging these for that crisp early-to-mid fall and even early spring wedding look.
The yellow below in particular really moved me and I like that you could easily swap out the leggings and shoes for something more formal.
I love the variety and flexibility of the layered look and the color variations and the idea that each maid can be represented by a different color and style. Everything can be customized: long under layer/short under layer, tights/ leggings, crew neck/vee neck, and of course each can be made as formal or informal as the occasion calls for.
Of course they would hopefully be paired with something more substantial than a slip dress underneath! But since maids usually end up with the short end of the stick as far as weather, sometimes having to endure rain or cold in nothing but satiny strapless numbers, how lovely that in this case the style would also be functionally comfortable!
