For today's Dream Dress Friday I decided to feature something completely different but that fully encompasses what true vintage style means to me.
Right now "vintage" is such a trend word that it gets over used and applied to things that are not necessarily by definition truly vintage but either new or "neo-vintage" as I like to call it. Often times it is simply a classic, timeless style that simply fits the "vintage" category because the common elements have been around for centuries.
For me, true vintage is something hand made with love, not mass produced. Above all true vintage incorporates more than just the current generation, which is why I love the story behind this gown, which is really quite simple and sweet!
The bride, with help from her mother, sewed this sweet wedding gown. A crochet belt made by her grandmother 20 years ago accents the retro style dress.
And with that you have a true vintage.
The dress is made of crepe satin and the hallmarks that make it stand out as a true vintage inspiration are many. The lovely slim cut and seamed waist create a lovely feminine shape. The high necked pin-tucked neckline with key hole further adds shape while retaining modesty, as do the light flutter sleeves.
Credits: Burda Style
This dress was made with the help of a Burda pattern. If you sew you know that Burda is a relatively new brand of patterns that caters to a new generation of novice "still learning" sewers and is more about freedom of artistic expression and the learning process, as opposed to the older or "designer" brands that cater to older and more experiences sewers and is more about precise technique and the end result.
It proves that taste has no budget and sublime inspiration truly can be found anywhere.

I really like the traditional long Wedding dresses. A showstopping and jaw dropping must that I need to wear. Simply stunning.
